Addiction: the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.
I’m not just a minister/pastor of the First Church of God in Monroe but I am also a peer recovery coach that helps people with different types of addictions. God has called me to do extra ordinary things in real life situations to help people that are struggling in life and addiction. But isn't that what we as "Christians" are called to do. After all, most of us can agree that there is a level of Discipleship that goes far beyond our own abilities and ventures into the "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" mentality. It's only through His strength that we can do anything. When we made the choice to pick up our cross and follow Christ, He never said it would be easy but He did give us many promises to encourage us. We had our first Celebrating Life in Recovery meeting last night. There were stories that were shared and tears that fell as a group of people came together for the first time to show the love of Christ and encourage one another that "you are not alone in your pain and suffering". People that suffer from addiction are not "drunks" or "Junkies" they are real live human beings created by the the same Creator that we all are. Sick people need help and I am glad I got the help when I needed it. If you know someone that is struggling with an addiction don't label them or cast them away, after all where would we be if Jesus decided to cast us away? Remember the words of our Savior John 15- 18 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Do you or anyone you know fight with the struggle of addiction, we want to help. We offer a biblically based meeting to help fight against all types of addictions. We use a biblically based 12 step program and want to encourage you to come seek the love and support we have to offer without judgment or condemnation.
