Shaped to Serve

August 12, 2017

"Coming together is the BEGINNING, keeping together is PROGRESS, but working together is SUCCESS!"

Have you ever considered how God is shaping you? Did you know that you are a chosen, precious, and uniquely shaped for God’s purposes.

Ephesians 1:3-4 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.

Being shaped to serve is not always an easy task, but it is necessary for the church (us) to recognize in what areas of our lives we are willing to allow and surrender to God’s shaping us because we should be holy and without blame before Him in love…

Read Acts 6:1-7

The apostles knew that the problem of supporting the needy required attention. Even though they were sensitive to the problem, they were also careful to recognize the importance of the priorities that were placed on them as the leaders of the church. In other words they could not leave what God had called them to do, which was preaching and teaching the word of God and giving themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word. So, they called the church together to “seek out” from among them seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, which we may appoint over this business…The apostles knew that the problem of supporting the needy required attention. In other words they could not leave what God had called them to do, which was preaching and teaching the word of God and giving themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word. So, they called the church together to “seek out” from among them seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, which we may appoint over this business…

First, let me start by saying I believe there Godly women that fit this leadership role. Second, we must understand that in biblical times the local council in Jewish communities usually consisted of seven men known as “the seven of the town”, and the ones chosen would have a good reputation among the people because they were full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom.

But because of this or in-spite of this (depending on how you look at it) the word of God spread, the number of disciples multiplied, and even the priests of the time were obedient to the faith.

Just as the potter forms and refines the clay, our Lord is shaping and refining us for the service we are uniquely gifted to do. Paul reminds us of this in 1st Corinthians 12:4-6 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.
